There are a number of different ways we can print an image for a lightbox. There are also a number of different styles of lightboxes which house the different prints.

There are lightboxes like the ultra slim light box which can house a Duratrans, digital print onto self adhesive vinyl, or a more cost-effective backlit film.

Duratrans is a brandname of Kodak. Very often it is used as a generic term for backlit display prints. When we refer to Duratrans we are referring to backlit film that is produced using a photographic process they are of the highest quality and are not comprised of little dots of ink so they cannot be measured in DPI. Many cosmetic companies and high-end retailers seeking the best quality will seek these as opposed to digitally printed backlit films.

The traditional lightboxes is not as thin or aesthetically pleasing as the ultra slim lightbox, however they can sometimes be brighter and stand out more. Usually used underneath the awning outside a shop, the traditional lightbox is best used in conjunction with a digital print onto self adhesive vinyl, or individually cut vinyl graphics. They are a cost-effective option for a lightbox.

The use of ultra slim lightboxes vs a flexface lightbox (which can only use a flexface vinyl banner) is very dependent on the position and size of the lightbox. The ultra slim lightbox has a maximum size of about 3mx1.5m and the image can be changed out by anyone. It is not a complicated process to change the image in an ultraslim lightbox as the faces come off with a suction cap and no other tools are required. The flexface lightbox has no real size limitations and is great for very large images. These lightboxes need to be changed out by an experienced tradesperson.

The use of vinyl cut graphics or cut out vinyl is done using different coloured vinyl (stickers) put through a vinyl cutter. The vinyl colours are ultra long lasting and give a solid vibrant colour. Vinyl graphics as opposed to digitally printed graphics will last longer in the Australian sun. They are commonly used on shopfront windows and interior walls displaying either graphics, text or a companys name and logo.

FACT:
We have recently started printing on One Way Vision (the graphics seen on bus windows) in reverse. By this we mean instead of printing on the material and sticking it to the outside of the glass, we can now print on the material and lay it up with adhesive on the face, so that we can stick the material to the inside of glass. This provides security and longevity as it is usually inside and away from the weather/vandals.
